weekend in review

“your hair may be brushed, but your mind’s untidy. you have had about seven hours of sleep since Friday. no wonder you feel that lost sensation. you are sunk from a riot of relaxation.” – Ogden Nash

*sigh* it was a wonderful & relaxing weekend in wiesbaden.

i ♥ comfort food!

this week has brought with it a significant drop in temperature – hello low 30’s at night! i am finding the cooler weather absolutely heavenly!

captain had wrangled one of his cohorts into coming over after work to help bring some furniture down to storage. knowing that they had a PT test stupid early the next morning, i wanted to cook something comforting, but not heavy, to help them feel their best for the early morning ahead and to say ‘thank you!’ to captain b for coming over to help. {this is not the first time he’s had to come help move furniture, bless.}

i found this recipe for a broccoli cheddar soup {more of a chowder really} and all i can say is make it. make it now. it totally fit the bill of being comforting & hearty, but not too heavy. perfect for a cold autumn evening.

some amendments: i used skim milk rather than half & half and honestly, cannot imagine using anything but. the soup was SO thick and lovely with the milk; i feel using half & half would have made it… gloppy {for lack of a prettier phrase.} another edit, i did not serve the soup in bread bowls. rather, i crisped some onion rolls in the oven and served for dipping.

the guys seemed to love it! and though i didn’t have any last night, i enjoyed leftovers for lunch and can attest to its deliciousness.

has it gotten chilly in your neck of the woods, yet? if yes, what comfort foods do you most love to create?

simply irresistible

we spent the weekend puttering around wiesbaden, finding touches for our home. what was missing for me come monday, was a sweet little baked something to have on hand.

i had an extra can of pumpkin i was anxious to use, thus my search narrowed & ended with the discovery of pumpkin cinnamon rolls. the recipe called for two cans, and i totally on purpose accidentally bought two cans, leaving me with, yes, yet another extra one to use in the very near future. hooray!

i used this recipe & found it easy to follow with results that could make a grown man cry.

these are absolutely to die for. i think perfect for special occasions like christmas morning or… a thursday.

enjoy! bella

ok, so it doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but for me, there is no truer indication of Fall’s arrival than the sudden influx of pumpkin-infused kitchen delights.

this past week, i incorporated pumpkin into the ever popular, easily pop-able cupcake. the results were near sublime. an added bonus? it filled our new house with a sweet autumnal aroma and added a much-needed sense of warmth and coziness. score!

i found this pumpkin cupcake recipe, loved its simplicity and the results were amazing. i then searched for a while to find a cinnamon cream cheese frosting that seemed a perfect complement & struggled. so i ended up using my tried & true frosting recipe and added cinnamon to taste (for me, it was a teaspoon-ish.)

*sigh* totally blissful.

hope your mondays are delicious!

simply sweet

i’ve found myself drawn to the kitchen more and more as of late. baking has always been a way i relieve stress, so considering the madness & moving chaos around me, it’s not too surprising.

this + this = delicious.

it’s an equation that makes sense; that i can completely understand, be in control of and get on board with. i can find a sweet little ‘how do you do’ that tickles my fancy… run into the kitchen, create & enjoy. through that process, i find the fortitude i need to tackle the ever-growing list of things that have to be done right now, right now, RIGHT NOW BELLA!

this is my latest indulgence. it’s a delicate sweetness so good; so light, fluffy… almost angelic in taste.
